JULY 18  Gardening Club event   A visit to a Littlethorpe Garden at Greencroft, Pottery Lane, 5.30 to 6.30pm Sally and David Walden have developed a one acre informal garden, full of spectacularly colourful borders, packed with perennials, annuals and exotics. Beautiful rose pergolas and other ornamental features are complimented with a view through to a wildlife lake area and boathouse, surrounded by countryside.Delicious homemade cake and tea on the terrace is included. Price £6 per person. Please email bmgc.treasurer@gmail.com to book a place and make payment by 5th July.Members and non members welcome.

AUGUST 5  Methodist Church Summer Lunch  At the Methodist School Room. Tickets are £8 and available from Angie Archbold (677834) or Margaret Lodge (677474). .In aid of Jenny Ruth Workshop..

AUGUST 9  Farming Life in Bishop Monkton . A Local History Group event.  To be led by Margaret Simpson who has lived most of her life in the village, being raised and married into local farming families.  The walk will take us through the village, showing us past and present farms and houses, revealing how village and farming life was, back through the generations to the present day. Margaret will start at her own farm, Ivy House Farm at 10.30am and will no doubt give us some fascinating insight into the history of this farm The tour will end at 12 30pm.. Please wear sensible footwear. All welcome. 

AUGUST 14  Village Walking Group.  A circular walk from Markington. About 6 miles. Meet on the bridge opposite the school at 10.30 a.m. BYO picnic lunch. Please ring Martin or Kathryn Bethel on 676691 with numbers. .

AUGUST 15  Garden visit. Another Gardening Club event. To tour of the garden of  acclaimed Radio and TV Garden Presenter and RHS Judge Martin Fish. Martin has over 35 years of experience and is passionate about all things to do with gardening. He is keen to share his love of gardening and pass on his wealth of practical knowledge and expertise. Martin will be taking us on a tour round his own ¾ acre garden, including a wide selection of trees, shrubs and perennials, landscaped courtyard garden and productive fruit and vegetable plot. He will be pointing out plants of interest and of course answering any questions. Refreshments, tea and cake will be provided. The garden is at Thorneycroft, Rainton, Thirsk  YO7 3PH. Parking is at the rear of the Lamb Inn next door.

AUGUST 17   August Coffee Morning  This is to raise funds for a Maternity Ward in The Gambia. Event to be held at.Dransfield House from 10am to12 nooon.. All welcome. 

AUGUST 21  Old Time and Social Sequence Dance

SEPTEMBER 12   From Mill to Mill and Beyond. Another Local History Group event. Following an excellent tour that Sue Hargreaves and her brother Pete did for us in May and despite the rain, we have been asked to repeat this tour for those who could not make it first time round. Sue and Pete have kindly agreed to take us again on a walk down memory lane and tell us about their childhood growing up in the village and about family and village life. Starting opposite the Paper Mill (Freedom Mill) at 2pm, corner of Renton Close and travelling down to the Corn Mill and further, they will reveal fascinating places and anecdotes on the way. Please wear sensible footwear. All welcome.
