Runners invited to set own challenge
Beck Buster Race goes virtual
Last year's 10K race in progress.
This year’s Beck Busters Race, scheduled for September, has been cancelled but it will still be happening virtually to comply with social distancing rules and to keep everyone safe. Runners are being invited to sign up for one of two options – either to run a 10K route of their choice between July 20th and September 20th, or to run any distance of their choice during the same period as a personal challenge.
Organisers stress that people should observe social distancing when they do this and that people should not gather in large groups to run. Virtual runners are being invited to get sponsors and money raised will be added to the £6,000 raised last year towards the all-weather track for the school field.
Organiser Ashlea Costelloe writes- “It is with heavy hearts that we have had to make the decision not to run (excuse the pun) Beck Busters 2020 in its' usual format. Given the current social distancing guidelines it seems unlikely that we will be in a position to safely host 300+ runners as planned in September, but we know that many of you have been training hard in the hope that some races might go ahead, and that some of you have even taken up running for the first time during lockdown. With this in mind we have decided to change this year’s Beck Busters to a virtual format.
There is a 10K:

And a 'Fun Run' which is open to all ages and incorporates any distance that you find a personal challenge.

There will be a bespoke medal for all, as well as spot prizes so please upload your photos to our social media pages or email them over to us. We can't wait to see them.”

Sweet gesture from Youth Club
Bishop Monkton Methodist Youth Club presented a cheque for £300 to the Friends of School – and most of the money came from the small profits made each week over several years from the sale of sweets to the kids!
Making the presentation were two youngsters, Elena Russell and George Jennings, and they handed the cheque to Ashlea Costelloe, Julia Russell and Emma Gough, representing the Friends of School, who thanked the Youth Club for its wonderful donation which would be put to good use.
The highly popular Methodist Youth Club, with 50 signed up members, meets each Friday evening during term with the kids playing on any of more a dozen games set up or organised around the hall, and outside during the summer. The free to attend club has now been running for seven years and is open to youngsters aged between 10 and 15 who live in the village or attend the school. It is led by David Arundell, Pauline Arundell and Lesley Shervington.
