Queen's Birthday Honours List

Margaret Lodge awarded the   British Empire Medal

Margaret Lodge has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. The honour is in recognition of her services to the community of Bishop Monkton.

Margaret served as clerk to Bishop Monkton Parish Council for 42 years before her recent retirement. She is also been prominent in many other village activities over the years. Margaret's many friends will be delighted by her award which everyone feels is very well deserved.

One of the first to offer congratulations to Margaret was Mervyn Beecroft, former Chairman of Bishop Monkton Parish Council. Margaret was Parish Clerk for the 27 years he served as Chairman and also earlier when he was a Parish Councillor.

'She is a lovely unassuming lady and it was a pleasure to work with her. We never had a cross word and she never raised her voice. She certainly deserves this honour and the whole village will share her pride when she attends her investiture at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle', he said.

Apart from her work for the Parish Council Margaret also carried out invaluable work at the Village School and has also been a staunch member of the Methodist Church. Among her many voluntary services to the community she regularly collects books from Ripon Library and delivers them to people who are housebound or unable to go there themselves for other reasons.
