Proceeds for Village Hall improvements

Almost £2,500 raised at our ever popular Autumn Auction

Selling .......

For buying ......

Supping and buying .....

The Lamb & Flag was crowded to capacity with about 100 attending our ever-popular Autumn Auction  with the 'A' team of Richard Houseman and Mevryn Beecroft in charge of the selling as usual.

And the good news is that the event raised a whopping £2,477 from the auction and raffle, with proceeds going towards providing new external doors for our Village Hall.

As usual all sorts of items had been donated by generous villagers, ranging from pots of jam, to framed pictures, from fruit cakes to  bottles of wine and whisky, from apple pies to jars of picalilli, from bags of apples to wallking sticks .....

One of the star items to come under the hammer was an hour's flight over North Yorkshire, this gift again being donated by Tim and Maddie Harvey. Someone paid £340 for this thrilling experience!

Angela Archbold was once again in the forefront of things and managed to buy a golf  travel bag amongst other fine items and she doesn’t even play!

In the raffle  a two-course Sunday lunch at the Lamb &  Flag for four, donated by Trevor and Carol Pawson, was won by Stancy Coughlin who was actually helping Trevor and Carol earlier in the evening.

Gerald Shervington commented: 'The ladies (and gentlemen) of Bishop Monkton have obviously been very busy  baking, pickling and painting all manner of fantastic items for the auction and were equally busy during the course of the evening buying it all back!

'Thanks as always must go to Trevor and Carol for hosting this annual  tradition and as ever to Messrs Houseman and Beecroft who made the evening go  very quickly with their fine wit and swift repartee.

'We must also thank all of the people who helped during the evening and a huge thank you to everyone who attended - you do make a difference!'

Now we all can't wait to see those fine new doors swinging open at the Village Hall!
