Bishop Monkton Croquet Club hosted the Yorkshire Federation Inaugural Golf Croquet Restricted Doubles Competition on September12.

There was full compliment of 10 pairs from clubs within the Yorkshire Federation. The pairings were restricted by the ruling that their joint handicaps mustn't total less than 10 which gave some interesting pairings : one pair had a 1 handicap playing with a 9 handicap another pairing had a 12 handicap playing with a 10 handicap and all other combinations in between.

The atmosphere was exciting, as players with international and national playing experience teamed up with novice players and well established players joined forces to contest for the trophy. Some exciting croquet was played, the weather was kind and players were treated to the hospitality of the Bishop Monkton Club.

All the players enjoyed playing on the club's excellent main lawns and the club and the manager, Andrea
Widdison, received many compliments for this successful inaugural competition.

During afternoon tea Andrea Widdison presented the trophy to Brian Cave and Peter Reid from Sheffield U3A who beat Trevor Wood ( Bishop Monkton) and Anne Walker ( Ben Rhydding) in the final.

Andrea thanked everyone for an exciting tournament played in a good, sporting atmosphere and the volunteers
for their work with lawn preparation and refreshments. A special thanks was made to Ted Flexman of Ripon who was an excellent tournament referee.

Club Chairman Richard Field thanked Andrea for all her hard work in setting up and organising both this event and an earlier singles tournament.
