A clean sweep for Dave and Andrea

Dave and Andrea with their 'haul' of  cups. On left are the beaten finalists, Trevor Wood (men's singles), Izzy Poyntz (ladies' singles) and John and Christine Feeny (mixed doubles).

This year's internal Club Championships, played to a new format well organised by Lesley Wood, produced an exciting finals day on September 17 - and a unique result.

All three conmpetitions were won by the Widdisons - Dave taking the singles by beating Trevor Wood 7-6, 7-4; Andrea by beating Izzy Poyntz 7-1, 7-4, and Dave and Andrea beating John and Christine Feeny 7-5, 7-4.

All the matches produced some keenly fought tussles, with the lead often changing hands during  play.

This was the first time in the club's history that all the titles had been won during a single season by a man and wife in the same family.

The finals day was watched by club members, who were treated to wine and nibbles - a nice innovation!

The club is grateful to Lesley for organising the competition so efficiently.  In the new format, played in two pools, competitors played everyone else in their pool during the season, leading to the emergence of semi-finalists and then finalists.
