Resume of the Bowling Club season

The presentation of the Ladies Captain's Shield to Club Captain Basil Birchall with Ladies Captain Pauline Beecroft and Chairman David Blyfield.

By Basil Birchall

The formal season was brought to a close with the annual Ladies v Gents match which was closer than usual. The match was won by the men on aggregate rather than rinks! The ladies were short of some of their 'stars' but these were compensated by 'ladies for the day' men who contributed greatly to the ladies cause. The match was followed by the usual excellent high tea for which we have good reason to be grateful to the ladies

A successful season with a sixth successive Dalesman League win for the men. the Ladies performing well in the Harrogate Ladies League, finishing second in the Bateson League by only 2 points and a winning start in the 4th division of the York Private Members' League. Next season we join the 3rd division and plan to gradually rise to the top division !

The usual friendly matches took place and are always an enjoyable event finishing with a delicious tea We hosted a  touring team from Gloucester which proved to be a happy afternoon. The Club competitions were completed (more or less) on time.

The results will be featured with pics of their presentation at the Annual Dinner on October 19.
